I actually did a pretty great job with my New Years resolutions this year!
There were a couple that dropped off, like wanting to run a faster half-marathon and to streamline my website (lol, sorry). But it was necessary for a couple goals to fall off since my priorities changed throughout the year. I found that I prioritized travel opportunities—now having gone on a whopping 16 trips this year—and musical opportunities.
Honestly, my goals for 2025 are not too far off from my goals for 2024. My top values and priorities are pretty much the same: 1. Freedom/Adventure, 2. Creativity, 3. Community. I am just building on and reprioritizing goals from last year.
For example, last year I released my song Bring Us Down. This year I plan to release 3 songs (ah! It’s out there now! Someone hold me accountable!), which are already in the demo stage. I also plan to get a professional promotion kit together for myself. I do want to continue to run this year, but I am settling for doing a 10k once a month, which I think is totally reasonable. A 10k is probably the maximum I can do right now without sacrificing the rest of my day or needing to train.
Something new I am trying for this year is more intentional rest time. Right now I usually have back-to-back activities every day, weekdays and weekends. As much as I love staying active and connecting with people, I need more time to rest and recharge. In 2025, I am taking at least one evening a week just for myself, just to chill. No plans.
I am also requiring myself to get at least 7 hours of sleep (preferably more), with the exception of once a month, if I need to wake up early for travel. I know sleep is extremely important for good health and I have sacrificed it too much this year.
How I Set Goals
I usually divide up my goals into “Project” and “Process” goals.
Project goals have a definitive start and end. Some are related to larger goals that I have, like continuing to grow my music platform. Others are just ones that I know make me happy and will make me decompress, like learning a dance choreography.
Process goals are ones that I want to build as habits in my daily routine. Some are too personal for me to share, but here is a list of most of my 2025 goals:
PROJECT
• Make one art piece
• Learn one choreography
• Make website navigable (we’ll see!)
• Release 3 songs
• Get good music promo photos taken
• Take pop music production course
PROCESS
• Read 60 books
• Post once a week to socials and/or YouTube
• Daily 2-hour music time
• Blog at least once every other month
• Over 7 hours of sleep (exception for 1x a month)
• Evening to myself once a week
• Perform solo twice a month
• Morning pages
• Artist dates
• 20-min meditative weekly walks
• Run 10k once a month
• Maintain spiritual routine
I know this LOOKS like a lot, but a good chunk of these, especially the Process goals, are habits that I have already been implementing for over 2 years. This is just a way to keep myself focused to maintain my quality of life. I’ve really only added 3.5-ish new process goals! Some of the goals also overlap. For example, working for 2 hours one day on a song that I am releasing would absolutely cut into both goals.
I plan on continuing my monthly check-ins. That’s a practice I started in 2023 and will carry over into the new year. These check-ins help me reevaluate goals I set at the start of the year and tweak as necessary to suit my current priorities without any guilt.
I also always do a yearly vision board that I keep as the lock screen on my iPad and iPhone, but I also want to print it out this year and display in my home to keep my 2025 vision even more top-of-mind. A few months into the year, I tend to gloss over my device lock screens, defeating the purpose of having the vision boards just there.
As you might have noticed, I don’t really have any longterm goals as far as my living situation or my career. I have done this on purpose. I don’t want to close myself off from any surprising opportunities that come my way.
I am fighting the urge to control how my life unfolds and just really taking things day by day and listening to my gut. I think I’m at a point in my life where having a 5-year plan would hinder me rather than help me. But who knows? I could change my mind halfway through the year and chart out the next 10 years.
But for right now, I am enjoying the flexibility and freedom of my current stage in life and have charted out an exciting new direction for 2025!
What are your plans for the new year?
